“As they lock eyes you can see the energy in the room shift and she is filled with power and purpose. When you’re in tune with the mom you feel it too. Not many people have a job where their work is supporting new life. It’s the happiest thing ever!”

-Jennifer Green LM, CPM

Jennifer Green, LM, CPM

Certified Professional Midwife, Owner

Jennifer’s favorite part about midwifery is building relationships during prenatal appointments and learning about families and situations to build deeper trust. She gets into the science of nutrition and exercise and how they impact labor, birth, and healing postpartum. Jennifer believes that hearing a baby’s heartbeat for the first time is magical saying, “You see these couples who worked together through the pregnancy and dig deep to bring the baby earthside, so when mom sets eyes on her baby everything goes quiet it’s the most beautiful thing you could witness.”!

Jennifer began her midwifery journey in 2001 when she sought home birth for the first of her three boys, each of whom was caught by midwives. She learned that she was strong, powerful, and instinctual, solidifying her trust in the female body and the innate knowledge all women have about birth and motherhood. Jennifer taught natural childbirth classes for many years before creating her own curriculum called, “Empowering Birth Classes”. During that time she studied the Doulas of North America (DONA) Doula Workshop and attended over 20 births as a Doula. She knew she wanted to be a home birth midwife and felt the time would be right when her own growing family became more independent.

Jennifer became an apprentice in 2010 and did her apprenticeship following the Portfolio Evaluation Process outlined by the North American Registry of Midwives, under Terri Hewitt LM, CPM, and Jenny Derugen LM, CPM, and attended over 120 births. Jennifer was certified and licensed in 2014 and consistently attends midwifery workshops and skill classes to enhance her knowledge and the Seven Cities Midwifery Care model.

Sydney Mustard, LM, CPM

Certified Professional Midwife

Sydney Mustard’s favorite part about midwifery is the honor of being invited into someone’s sacred birth space and the miracle of life that allows her to witness someone’s first breath. Seeing the empowerment of a mom and dad to come through one of the most miraculous events of their life is a true gift.

Sydney’s journey toward midwifery started when she accepted an administrative position at a local hospital’s family maternity center, and soon became immersed in all things labor, delivery, baby, and postpartum. A year later, she and her husband became parents and now have four children, three of whom were caught by midwives. She became a certified Doula and served our community for over ten years in that capacity, then in 2021 earned her midwifery certification through the Portfolio Evaluation Process as outlined by the North American Registry of Midwives.

Sydney looks forward to harvesting the seed that was planted so many years ago to competently and lovingly serve families for years to come.

Tess Rogers

Student, Birth Assistant

Tess Rogers’ favorite aspect of midwifery is witnessing the moment a mother first meets her baby, and that experience is different for each mother, pregnancy, and child who comes into the world, and she feels honored and humbled to be a part of the experience.

Since childhood, Tess has always been drawn to babies and pregnant mothers so becoming a doula was a natural progression for her. She witnessed her first hospital birth in 2015 and remembers the strong feeling that she needed to advocate for the mother she was supporting. She began apprenticing with a home birth midwife in Virginia Beach, while attending Midwifery school at Mercy In Action College of Midwifery in Boise, Idaho. Tess’s work has taken her to birth centers in Africa where she was fascinated to learn how the culture handles pregnancy and birth, and to exchange ideas and practices with the local midwives.

Tess looks forward to growing in her apprenticeship with Seven Cities Midwifery Care, and is passionate about being an advocate for all women by helping them to trust and feel autonomous over their bodies and their births.

The team at Seven Cities is looking to add an apprentice/student midwife!

Seven Cities Midwifery Care supports The Midwives Model of Care

The Midwives Model of Care is based on the fact that pregnancy and birth are normal life processes.

The Midwives Model of Care includes:

  • Monitoring the physical, psychological, and social well-being of the mother throughout the childbearing cycle

  • Providing the mother with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support

  • Minimizing technological interventions

  • Identifying and referring women who require obstetrical attention

The application of this woman-centered model of care has been proven to reduce the incidence of birth injury, trauma, and cesarean section.
